The First Year Modules at
Kasr Al Ainy (Qasr)
Welcome to the 5+2 integrated system. Calling all KA 199 and KA 200 students: you will face four massive horizontal modules this year. Forget everything you knew about high school studying. The D-Books are dense, and the exams are brutal. Here is exactly what you are going to face, subject by subject.
Normal Structure of the Human Body
Your introduction to medical school. This module is purely structural. You will spend most of your time in the dissection room figuring out how the body is built before you learn how it works.
Anatomy & Embryology
You will cover general anatomy concepts, basic embryology, and a deep dive into the Upper Limb. Expect to memorize every muscle in your arm and shoulder, their nerve supplies (hello, brachial plexus), and blood vessels.
Histology (Histo)
Welcome to looking at pink and purple slides. You will study the microscopic structure of cells, epithelium, and basic connective tissues.
Intro to Biomedical Sciences
If 101 was about structure, 102 is about function. This module shifts focus entirely to how your cells actually communicate and survive.
Physiology (Physio)
The study of normal function. You will tackle action potentials, the cell membrane, nerve-muscle physiology, and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). Prepare for a lot of logic and graph reading.
Biochemistry (Biochem)
The chemistry of life. You'll dive into the molecular structures of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. It is heavily memory-based but critical for pharmacology later on.
Biomedical Sciences & MSK
A massive, heavy-hitting module that integrates four different departments to teach you everything about the Musculoskeletal System.
Anatomy
You are moving south. Anatomy covers the entire Lower Limb (gluteal region, thigh, leg, foot) in heavy detail.
Histology
You will study the microscopic structure of bone and cartilage, understanding how the skeletal framework is built at a cellular level.
Physiology
Focuses deeply on muscle contraction mechanics, excitation-contraction coupling, and how your nerves command movement.
Biochemistry
Brings in the metabolism of vitamins, minerals, and exactly how energy (ATP) is generated and utilized during intense muscle work.
Cardiopulmonary System
Arguably the most clinical and important module of Year 1. It integrates the heart and lungs across Anatomy, Histology, and Physiology. Do not risk your grades here—start practicing with ResusClear's interactive courses below.
